A Feng Shui question ?

I am in the beginning stages of feng shui for my home. Doing it on no money for now. Main question is: There are some elements to our home that have a "negative" energy to them, and it isn't something that can be gotten rid of at the present time. Can't go into detail, but just know it is negative energy. Where should I put it in the house, OR is there a cleansing item I can put with it to expel the negative, such as salt? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you! :)
